Well-child visits are about much more than immunizations! They provide a chance for you to check in with Dr. Dunlap and ask questions about your child’s health. We will go over growth, development, nutrition, behavior, sleeping, and more.
For children over 3, Dr. Dunlap will address the questions directly to the child, allowing the parent to jump in when necessary. This gives a child a sense of independence and empowerment.
Because children over age 11 should be given an appropriate amount of medical autonomy, Dr. Dunlap will request that the parent step out of the room for part of the visit. This ensures that the child or adolescent has a chance to ask questions that they might not feel comfortable asking in front of a parent. Exams will always be done with a parent or nurse in the room.
In order to see patients in a timely manner and to stay on schedule, we require an appointment for your child to be seen. However, the large majority of our schedule is held open for same-day appointments.
On the rare occasion that Dr. Dunlap’s schedule is completely filled, our nurse will discuss your concerns with you, and, if necessary, we will fit you into the schedule. If your child is ill, we want to see him or her! Continuity of care is very important to us, so we will only send you to urgent care when there is no other option.
We discourage walk-in appointments because it is difficult to offer the highest standard of care without having a record of immunizations and medical history. However, there may be times when walk-in or telemedicine visits are offered for certain conditions (sore throat, fever, etc.) and these hours will be advertised on Facebook when available.
Dr. Dunlap works very hard to stay on schedule and to see you at your scheduled appointment time. This can only continue if you show up early or on time for your appointment.
That being said, we understand that life is messy! If you know you will be late or have an unexpected conflict, please call our office so we can reschedule.
A pattern of late or no-show appointments could result in dismissal from our office.
Dr. Dunlap takes a special interest in adolescent health. She is comfortable discussing sexual health, as well as discussing and prescribing contraception.
Although Dr. Dunlap encourages an open and honest relationship between an adolescent and his or her parents, your adolescent has the right to medical autonomy and privacy. Therefore, unless your child is at risk of medical or emotional harm, anything discussed with Dr. Dunlap will remain between Dr. Dunlap and the patient.
Sports physicals can be done in conjunction with your child’s well child check. However, if your child is not yet due for a well child check, you can make an appointment specifically for the physical.
This appointment will be shorter than a full well check and will only address questions pertaining to the physical. Please bring a hard copy or electronic copy of the physical with you.
Depending on the requirements of the school or sports club, if your child has had a full well check in the preceding 11 months, and is up to date on immunizations, Dr. Dunlap will fill out and sign the form without requiring a visit. Forms can be attached to your child’s portal account and sent to Dr. Dunlap. Please allow 7 days for forms to be filled out and returned.
Your child’s next pediatric visit could take place in the convenience of your home via telemedicine, using the Anytime Pediatrics app.
Anytime Pediatrics makes connecting to trusted care with Dr. Dunlap more convenient than ever. Download the app on your tablet or smartphone, or visit anytimepediatrics.com on your computer to pre-register today.
The practice code is 7323. Please use Google Chrome as your internet browser when using this service.
Please understand that while this software is HIPAA-compliant, by choosing to do a virtual visit, you are agreeing to electronic communication of you or your child’s health information through audio, video, and/or photo technology. While our software is secure, consider any privacy needs in your space as well.
If your child’s illness or injury is life-threatening, call 911.
We know that children can get sick at any time! You can call our office 24 hours a day with new or urgent questions or concerns that cannot wait until office hours. Most issues can be expertly handled by the triage nurse line. If the nurse is unable to answer your questions, Dr. Dunlap is on back-up call.
It is always preferable for your child to be seen in our office for a medical issue, rather than at a series of different urgent care clinics by providers who lack a relationship with your family. Continuity of care is very important to us!
However, there may be times when going to urgent care is the right choice. In that case, we can recommend some amazing pediatric care centers in Tulsa.
If you are not sure, call us and we can help figure out where to get the care you need.
Florence Park Pediatrics will bill the insurance you provide to us at the time of your service. We will ask to see your insurance card at every visit to ensure that we have the most up-to-date information in your account.
All copays are due at time of service and as part of the contract between you and your insurance carrier, we are unable to waive these for any reason. Payment may be made in cash, by check or by card. We also accept Health Savings Account (HSA) cards for payment.
Save time, paper, and hassle when paying your bill by enrolling in Florence Park Autopay. We also offer secure online bill payment.
It is ultimately your responsibility to understand your insurance benefits. Our billing staff will be happy to assist you with questions. Download our complete Financial Policy.
Our practice follows the Bright Futures Preventive Care guidelines established by the American Academy of Pediatrics. These guidelines recommend periodic health and wellness screenings, examples include vision and hearing screening, developmental screening, autism screening, adolescent depression screening, and maternal post-partum depression screening. Please note that some of these screenings may not be covered by your insurance plan.
If there is a symptom or concern raised at a well visit that requires evaluation and management outside the scope of a typical well appointment, there will be additional charges billed to your insurance.
Please contact our billing office if you need any further assistance.
We are happy to work with families that prefer to pay directly for services or do not have insurance. For such patients, a time of service discount will be applied to the bill if settled in full on the day of service. This discount does not apply after the day of the visit.
We cannot over-emphasize the importance of vaccinating your child according the to the well-studied CDC schedule of immunizations, particularly in light of the world’s current health climate.
Florence Park Pediatrics requires that all patients follow this recommended schedule except in the rare instance of a medical contraindication to immunizations. These will be taken on a case by case basis, discussed directly with Dr. Dunlap.
If a parent chooses not to vaccinate for personal reasons, this will also be discussed directly with the doctor. If after a thorough discussion of the risks, a parent still chooses not to vaccinate their child, they will most likely be asked to find a different pediatrician.
Although this policy may sound unreasonable, it is a pediatrician’s sole mission in life to care for all children to the best of their ability. If a doctor is restricted to only offer certain interventions and not others, based on belief rather than evidence, it is impossible to know that she is offering the highest standard of care, and she is compromising her own oath to do no harm.
We strongly believe in the responsible use of antibiotics, and make every effort to prescribe them only when a bacterial infection is suspected. Antibiotics have no benefit against viral infections, and can cause unintended side effects, especially when used inappropriately or excessively. We also do not routinely prescribe antibiotics over the phone.
In order to provide your child with the best care, we do not want them to run out of needed medications. At the same time, medications often require adjustments in dosing, timing, and potency.
Refills can be requested through the patient portal, by calling our office, or by having the pharmacy contact our office. Please make sure to allow at least 48 hours for us to process the request. We may also contact you to schedule a visit to discuss your child’s health and medications.
If you think your child would benefit from seeing a specialist, please call our office first. We prefer this be discussed in person with an office visit.
This allows us to:
However, if it’s something that you have discussed with Dr. Dunlap in the past, or a referral that has been requested by another specialist, this can sometimes be handled over the phone.
