LGBTQ Patients and Their Families

Youth who are gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning are an important population with unique healthcare needs, as they may experience significant health disparities in mental health, substance use, and sexually transmitted infections…the presence of stigma from homophobia and heterosexism can lead to psychological distress, which may contribute to an increase in risky behaviors.American Academy of Pediatrics

Florence Park Pediatrics aims to eliminate health disparities experienced by LGBTQ youth and to address their unique health and social needs. No child should experience a feeling of stigma simply for being themselves. The following resources are offered for LGBTQ parents, parents of LGBTQ youth, LGBTQ youth themselves and all those who support them.

A great starting point when a family is experiencing the coming out process is The Oklahoma Equality Center. A link to their website it provided. They offer a multitude of resources and support for the Tulsa and greater Oklahoma LGBTQ community.

If you or your child ever feel judged or stigmatized by the Florence Park Pediatrics staff, notify Dr. Dunlap immediately as we have a zero tolerance policy on discrimination of any kind.
